As part of its Mubadarat programme supporting civil society, and with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), IUCN-Med is launching a series of six training courses to support civil society organizations (CSOs) in designing nature-based projects that deliver environmental, economic, and social impact.
The first call for expressions of interest is now open for the first two trainings, which will take place in June 2025:
- Sustainable Tourism and Ecotourism (Tunisia)
- Sustainable Food Systems and Biodiversity (Spain)
Application deadline: 14 April 2025
Why these trainings?
The objective is clear: to equip Mediterranean CSOs, key players in the inclusive ecological transition, with practical skills to design and implement concrete, sustainable, and community-driven projects based on Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
These trainings are part of the mission of the Mubadarat programme, which aims to:
- Strengthen the technical and strategic capacities of local CSOs
- Foster the inclusion of youth and women in conservation projects
- Promote local development models based on sustainable employment and ecological resilience
A structured training journey in 6 modules
Scheduled between June 2025 and April 2026, this training cycle will combine:
- Preparatory online learning sessions
- Two to Three-day in-person workshops
- Ongoing support for the design of NbS project proposals
Training themes include:
- Sustainable tourism and ecotourism
- Sustainable food production systems
- Spatial planning and integrated coastal zone management
- Water governance and wetland management
- Ecological restoration of forest landscapes
- Species and natural area conservation
Turning learning into action
Each course will support participants to transform their acquired knowledge into concept notes for submission to future funding opportunities. CSOs will also gain access to a toolbox of good practices and shared resources via the Mubadarat digital platform.
An Initiative Driven by the Needs Expressed by CSOs
This initiative responds to a recurring demand from civil society organizations (CSOs) in the region seeking to deepen their understanding of Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Aware of the importance of developing integrated responses to the environmental, social, and economic challenges faced by North African populations, CSOs see NbS as a key lever for sustainable territorial development.
In this context, members of IUCN’s Tunisian National Committee expresse their interest in receiving more targeted training on this topic. A two-day introductory workshop was therefore organized in December 2024, marking an initial step in this collective learning journey.
The new trainings launched in 2025 now build on this momentum, opening a structured cycle of learning to a broader group of CSOs across the region.
How to apply?
CSOs based in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, or Lebanon are invited to apply using the online application form.
